I have this one Salmon Faverolle chick, Fawn, who is developing a crooked beak [or crossed beak is the term?] and its worrying me a bit, but really bothering my dad. I heard you can stick Penetran on it to relax the muscles so it falls back into place, but she squirms too much and I cant even get a rubber band or anything on her beak [even with help from another person] and I don't want to poison her or anything with the Penetran if she were to eat it.
I know if you don't do anything that you should make sure her dishes are deep so she can scoop, but like I said, my dad is determined to do something since it's bothering, and I mean, it's sad for me to watch her try to even eat off the ground cause she just fails at it >:
So, is there anything I can do to help her?
I don't wanna trim her beak or kill her.. :\\
She's a salmon Faverolle, about a week/week and a half old, she eats, sleeps and poops normally and doesn't get picked on since she's one of the bigger chicks. She's super sweet though and will cuddle up to any of the little chicks and eat right out of your hand. :c
I think it's progressing daily, but you can probably guess what a crooked beak looks like.
Thank You in advance -Yoko <:

A picture would be worth a thousand words.. Not all crooked beaks are the same.. If it's not too severe, you can trim her beak with a dremel tool or something similar (ped-a-paw) to make her beak a bit shorter.. But if it is so sever that she will not survive and starve to death, it is better to cull now and save her the agony.. If you post a picture, you may be able to get some suggestions...

I, too, think it depends on how bad it is. Can you post a picture? I have an EE with a crossed beak. She'll be a year old next month. I trim her beak from time to time and I do put a scoop of food in an old Cool Whip container for her that she can scoop it out of and eat that way. She lays eggs, so I know she's getting enough food. She can pick stuff up off the ground, she just turns her head sideways to do it...lol. I wasn't sure she'd be able to reach maturity and I certainly never thought she'd ever lay, but she's proven me wrong.

Just a thought before your Dad starts trying to adjust anything - look and see if her jaws are aligned. If they are, it's really a crooked beak, meaning the beak is growing crooked, not that something slipped out of place and can be put back in place by force. Just so he doesn't waste time and energy on something that won't change anything.
