I have white leghorn bantams and black rose comb bantams normally there combs are nice and straight however in the late 2 weeks there combs have started to turn almost look twisted. we have had a lot of rain lately. So I dewormed them, and started them on corid for coccidiosis. I thought it might be due to mott but they seem to be feathering beautifully these birds are all breeding roosters and are with females and females seem to be fine. My yard was tested 3 weeks ago and passed with flying colors. I am stumped if there is anyone with any advice I would love to hear it.

Treating for things you aren't dealing with is not recommended. Rain doesn't have to mean worms or coccidiosis. And a curly comb is not an indicator of either.

Leghorn standard of perfection calls for the comb to flop to one side but not cover the eye too much (in females)... as far as I can remember. But the comb has to gain it's size before that happens. The flopping might not be accepted in males... I'm not sure since I am not heavily involved with that particular breed.

I often see curviness in LARGE (comb not body size) straight combed breed. I prefer more straight... so I select against those who "twist" too much.

Hope this information is helpful. :)

The thing about this is that they were perfectly straight 2 weeks ago and I know that the females are supposed to flop over but the males are not and the spikes on my black rose combs are suppose to stay straight and now they look like a hook none of the females are effected

What are their ages? Things can change really fast, especially if hormones are kicking in.

Genetics plays a huge roll... Even from the same parents... not all offspring will get the same qualities or defects. Especially if the parent stock hasn't had those qualities selected for or against.

Are you able to post pics so we can see what you are describing? I have raised hundreds of chickens and seen a LOT of things. Right now, it sounds completely normal, but a pic might tell another story.

Oh wow!

I see new things all the time.

Are you able to share pics? I will definitely look into it and see if I can come up with any ideas! :pop

What did you worm with? Have you already shared you location and I missed it? Adding it to your profile can help to make more appropriate suggestions without others having to ask first. It can be general like country or state even.

Thanks for sharing this learning opportunity with me! :highfive:
