Hi everyone I just rescued a chick from a farm store that they weren’t selling because of crooked toe and splayed leg, they gave her to me for free!! But this is a little more extensive then my previous experience— let me just say I’ve hatched chicks with this and they recovered well but I also watched them hatch and caught it immediately. This chick supposedly hatched on Monday/Tuesday and has been in this condition all through shipment and til today when I got her. I made her a boot and have a bandaid connecting her feet together. She cannot get used to the boot and bandaids, she falls on her face immediately and can’t get up and will just lay there. What can I do should I make a new boot? Less bulky? I think that’s what I’ll do but please let me know what you guys think

I would tape her curled under toes on top and on bottom in a normal position. Here is a link with a picture of this:

Her left leg looks a bit like a slipped tendon, common problem in chick’s legs. Sometimes they might be able to be fixed with repositioning the tendon in the first few days of life, but many are not successful.

I would give her some human super b complex by taking a tablet and crushing it into a spoonful of water, and then give her drops orally up to 1/4 tablet daily. Riboflavin (B2) is important in leg health.

Thank you so much, I’ve been giving B2 that’s was the first thing was give supplements but I am unsure about the tendon what does it look like to you?

I kind of think I see it but her feather make it slightly more tricky.. I have to be up in 5 hours to take my sister to airport but I’m going to make that box and attempt to fix it.. I took her out of the boot and hobble thing because I feel like if it is slipped tendon that will not help her without the tendon being right
