Hi! Not an emergency, or I don't think so. I have a 9-month-old Jubilee Orpington that weighs 10 lbs. Last night and tonight her crop was swinging under her chest like a water balloon. I felt it. It is not hard or lumpy but feels just like... a water balloon. She's not lethargic, she eats, she moves freely around the pen. When I let her out to free range a little she skritchy-scritches and moves around just fine. She squats and lets me pick her up no problem. Her output overnight last night was soft and about the size of my palm as it had fallen from her on a perch. Honestly, it looked like a palm-sized cow pattie.
Does this sound like sour crop? Happy to answer any questions.

Check the crop first thing in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink. If the crop is empty in the morning, there shouldn't be any issue.

The crop is like a holding tank and chickens fill the crop before they go to roost so they can process food/water overnight. The crop Should be full at night when they go to roost.

If the crop is NOT empty in the morning before she's had anything to eat/drink, then address the symptoms accordingly:

G'mornin! Butterscotch the Jubilee Orpington is doing fine this morning. Her crop is empty, her breath is fine. And she poops when you hold her! 😄 Her output overnight was normal and I'd say equal to the amount in her pendulous crop last night. Y'all are the best and I truly appreciate your help!

Glad to hear she's doing o.k.!
