(I may be posting prematurely, since I’ve only felt in the morning. I’ll recheck her this evening if I feel her crop as well, as this mass or if this mass is her crop)

While letting my flock out yesterday morning (Wednesday), I scooped up my BCM hen for a quick hug and noticed her crop was huge still. It is very firm, surprisingly so. When I let her down she ran to the food like everyone else, not acting lethargic or not interested in food. She still escaped the run and free ranged herself all day.

I didn’t think to check her last night, but checked this morning and it’s the same. It’s quite high on her chest, on the right side. I snagged a photo off google, the YELLOW ARROW is where her mass is.

In Jan I had a hen with sour crop/blockage who ended up passing, her crop was where it normally is, nice and low on her chest. Which makes me question if it’s my BCM’s crop. Could be impacted or tumor is what I’m thinking...

How old is the chicken? Can you post any pictures? If her crop is full and hard first thing in the morning, I would separate her in a dog crate with water. A little plain yogurt can be given. Massage the crop several times a day. Give 2 ml of Poultry NutriDrench each day she is without food. Recheck the crop again the next morning to feel if the crop has emptied some. If her crop goes down some, you can offer some scrambled egg or some watery chicken feed mash. Is she pooping okay?

Sorry I posted this right before leaving for work. Thank you for responding! I got home and she's happily out free ranging, she ran to me thinking I had treats. I can't catch her by myself, out in the yard. I'm going to wait until evening to feel again. It feels very right orientated. About the size of a lemon.

She will be 2 years old in June. She did lay an egg today, I haven't been able to watch her poop yet, but I'll follow her around a bit to see what comes out. Here's some photos I just took of her, her crop is definitely full and where it should be (it felt much higher this morning)

Okay, she put herself to bed and it’s definitely the same. Odd that she’s still going about her day feeling fine, I’m heavily leaning towards impacted. I’ll crate her in the morning.

Should I get some coconut oil in her tonight?

Sweet girl gobbled up coconut oil like it was candy. Gave her a tsp, hoping to see some grassy clumps in her poop.

It’s quite large.. bigger than a golf ball, she may need a trip to the vet if the oil doesn’t get things moving for her.

Woot! On the right path, it’s gone down over night. I found one poop with a few long pieces of grass. It’s still pretty hard, so I put her in her own crate with some water and gave her another tsp is coconut oil. Hoping this’ll do the trick for our girl.

I’m hoping I’ll have some poop in her crate when I get back home. How will I know if it’s pendulous crop vs impacted?
