So new to raising chickens. We have a very mixed flock, BAs, BO, Light and Dark Brahmas, and a Sicilian Buttercup with an enormous BO Rooster. We incubated eggs for the 1st time and successfully hatched 10 of 15 eggs. Our successful hatches were 4 BO/Buttercups, 3 pure BOs, 1 BO/BA and 2 BO/Brahmas.
I have 2 questions about sexing the chicks. I did not try vent sexing, I did try feather sexing using the wings, but every chick in the hatches feathers were almost identical so that didnt work either.
First, all our Brahma eggs look the same, but I believe our two hatched chicks are both from our LT Brahma hen. I know the BO/Brahmas are listed as a sex link combo and our chicks 2 distinct colors, one almost white(roo) and the other buff with a darker spot on its head(hopefully a pullet), bit since it may be from a Dark Brahma mother I wasnt sure. Has anyone breed a BO Roo with Dark Brahma hens and have pics of the chicks.
Second our Buttercup/BO chicks are all similar coloring except one is a slight lighter buff shade and has much more defined dark markings like our pure Buttercup chick had as a chick. Is this just a "every bird is a little different" thing or do I have 3 of one sex and 1 of the other? If so anyone know which should be which?
The 1st pic are the brahma crosses, they both have feathered legs. 2nd and 3rd pic are the 2 different colorings from the Buttercup cross chicks.
