what you cross breed depends on your needs heres a couple of examples

White leghorns here have a harder time during the winter with no body fat and are also first ones to get attacked by areal predators , crossing them with barred rock didn't help much we got mostly white birds with pin stripped lower wing feathers but much better for temps. will wait until spring to try again, This time they are going to be crossed with a RIR

We have a lot of areal predators here and they are free ranging we do have a lot of hiding spots for them but they sometimes don't have much time. So we crossed a Buff Orpington hen with a barred rock rooster, very pleased with the results but was hoping for more buff in the mix.
This is what we got, Sweetpea. She is more docile like the Bo but she isn't targeted often as she will stand up for herself will see how she does in the spring when she goes outside, and try to get more brown in there

Hey so need some opinions, this year is my first year breeding (ducks) and I was wondering, should i breed my female pekin with a Rouen, Khaki Campbell or another pekin?

Again, it all depends what your goals are. I am not a duck person (but have had them in the past). If you're looking for meat, I'd go with the Pekin. If you're looking for eggs, I'd go with the Campbell. I don't know Rouen. You might want to ask your ? on the duck thread.

I'm not eating any, but I would like eggs. I'll probably go with Campbell. If that doesn't work I'll try Rouen bc my pekin and Rouen already like each other

My Legbars were pure, one generation from Green Fire farms. I got them from the breeder that is writing the SOP to get them accepted by APA.

I was extremely disappointed I the egg color. But, they were good size and they laid plenty of them. And they are such sweet chickens! I will get more when I can "get back to the land".

I didn't know you were so close. I am in Ligonier. Hoping to start again this Spring or Summer with large fowl White Chanteclers. rehomed the Sussex because just too much frozen combs with the bitter winters we have been having in western PA these last 2 years.
