Cross breeding

Currently I have an 8 week old Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock cockerel and 7, 2year old commercial pullets. I would like to breed them when the cockerel becomes the right age, to hopefully produce some good egg layers. Any advice or opinions please.

make sure you have a plan for the chicks you have extra

especially since they are crosses, it might be difficult to find home for them

I wasn't planning to hatch a lot i would probably keep them as garden chickens

And be prepared for chicks that turn out to be cockerels.

Btw hatching is addicting Eggs tend to just show up in my bator.

Thankyou. I recently bought some 1.5 week old chicks that hadn't been sexed hoping that the majority would be female turns out I've got six cocks.

Straight run are mostly boys. Only 3/9 of mine turned out to be girls. And 2/3 of my sexed pullets turned out to be boys as well. I have terrible luck lol
