Well i hope this works, my dogs killed yet another hen one of my layers. I took said bird and hit them with it. That was the grosses experiance ever. If it works great if not i dont want a repeat thats for sure.

I'm sorry that happened. You said "yet another", so It's happened before? Your current set-up doesn't seem to be working well. Hitting your dog with the dead chicken won't do much good. Dogs are dogs, they do dog things. Could you contain either the dogs or the chickens or work to train the dog? Both dogs i worked with before i was on bed rest i picked up a hen and showed them the other day and they both ingored her like they are suppose to do. And yes this is the tenth hen they have killed, both the dogs and the hens are fenced in. The hens have the back and the dogs have the front. The chickens wings are clipped, and the dogs just kill them not damage other wise. I had several people say to try the chicken hitting thing, outside of electric fence along the ground which i cant do i have a two year old and i am expecting a new baby.

How can the dog kill the chicken if they're both fenced in?

Thas what we cant figure out. We walked the fence line and there arent any holes we can see. The hens thats have been killed some were before we reinforce the entire fence line and some have been since we have. The ones that figured out how to get out have either been killed our we caught them before the dogs noticed them. Or the were in the field and we got them before the cows chased them(we have a cow that hates chickens for unknown reasons). Hopefully they cant find a way out or we find the spot that they had been getting out. I know if we dont clip their wings they will just fly over atleast the leghorns will. So far those are the only ones finding escape amd i have clipped their wings as hard as possible. So we see in the next few days what happens.
