Crossbreed. Any thoughts?

I'm curious. Have you held her egg up to a store bought white egg?

If it is a pale blue then you have a Sapphire which is a Leghorn cross with Cream Legbar, though she isn't showing the typical crest, but that hybrid doesn't always have the crest.

My store bought eggs are light brown. ..

Could she be leghorn/Australorp or Sussex/australorp or Sussex/leghorn?

From what I can tell, most cross breeds are from heritage breeds here.

Yup...those are white eggs, so you can eliminate Sapphires or a mix with any blue layer type.

I think you said you got her from a feed store? At any rate, as the seller where he got them from. That may be the only way you can find a definitive answer.

I'd also go with White Leghorn in the cross. We cross all our chickens back and forth. We find that crosses are more healthy than pure breds as there is less inbreeding and more genetic diversity. And it is fun - what will you get if you cross this one with that one sort of fun. Besides then you get a flock of individuals who are easier to tell apart. Last year we did buy some pure bred chicks and are already thinking about who in the flock to cross them to. Planning to cross our new Welsummer rooster with our darkest green egg layer - green eggs are the result of crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers, so what will we get when we cross a very dark egg laying breed with a bird that already lays dark green eggs. Such fun.
At any rate our birds with leghorn in the cross are strong layers, strong birds, but not as excitable as leghorns. Bet you got a winner there!

Yep we sure do - these three are full brother and sister. They have in their bloodline Marans, Rock, Leghorn, Americana, Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Blue Hamburg and several game birds. I keep an Access Data base on our chickens to keep track of our breedings.
