Crossed Beak :-(

Hmmm... I have one but she's only 2 weeks old. It's not too too bad but I wonder if I should trim her beak now. What sort of dremel tool bit do you use?
I am sad because she's my favorite - by far the tamest and she's an Araucana, too.

Chiming in to say my crossbeak EE chick also came from Ideal.

Funny how many have had cross beak Easter Eggers from Ideal. We have a 5 week old with a cross beak. Was researching here to see what shuld be done. I would hate to have to cull it but would also hate for it to starve to death.

I recieved a crossbeak form MPC a few weeks ago.... I ended up culling her at 7 weeks of age cos she was refusing the hand feeding and it was escalating rapidly.

It didnt show up until she was about 5 weeks or so...well it was very slightly noticeable at arrival, but it didnt change at al till she as about 5 weeks. We kept an eye on it and it was getting PROGRESSIVELY worse every day. She was losing weight and looking skinny, and refused all help so we put her down.

Don't know what hatchery she came from originally tho thru MPC sadly.

Here is a picture of my BR Roo who has a crookbeak and is also missing one eye. The first picture is as an adolescent, I had only trimmed the beak once. The second picture is him at 10 mos old, I have trimmed or filed the beak periodically, you can see it is a bit better. He, too, eats out of a deep dish and has learned to angle his head and open his beak a little on the side so I can slip in treats like grape pieces and raisins. He is a good weight and seems happy. I did 'quick' him once as a chick when trimming and it bled horribly. Another time, he broke his upper beak on a metal feeding dish, which I never use anymore. When I trim, I have the bloodstop ready and just do a bit at a time.
