ok, so I picked up what I think is a Broad Breasted White turkey, and I'm pretty sure it's a hen. I was told she's a "production white". she was intended for the christmas table, and might still end up there, however she's working on me... she's kinda goofy and pretty sociable.

so here's my question. I've read you can't breed BBW naturally, they need artificial insemination. however, I understand that to be an issue with the tom's ability to get where they need to to do the job.

I've got a nice young tom, he's a bronze cross and while I haven't seen him breed the ladies, he struts and courts them on a regular basis so I think he'll be a good breeder come spring.

so, I assume she'll lay in the spring. given that she's been bred, what do you get in terms of meat production if you cross a bronze tom with a BBW hen? do you get a heavier meat production bird? midway between the two? or does the lighter bird frame and meat production rule? I'd be looking at hatching her eggs for dinner turkeys next year.

basically my question is if the resulting cross would be a better meat bird than the bronze, worth feeding this girl over the winter for.
or if we should just have dinner.

your thoughts?
