Crossing a Runner and a Khaki Campbell

I am down to just 2 ducks, a Drake Runner and a Female Campbell. (Mink, unfortunately) Anyhow...What would such a cross be? Both breeds are good layers and smallish size. I know the campbells were developed from a runner cross. They are constant companions, just thinking of hatching a few eggs in spring.

That should work. Have you changed your security to protect them from the mink?

We have tightened the house with more hardware cloth. Hard to keep them out of the creek, but we lock them up at night and would keep them locked up when little.

I have heard that half inch metal hardware cloth is the way to go. We used that for their first shelter, seems to have done the job. Now they're in a sturdier structure. Sorry for your loss.

You may need to find some other female ducks, depending on Mr. Drake's libido.

But I hope all goes well and before too long you can share pics of the littles.

I crossed a small female Runner with a regular size Campbell and the babies have grown up to be more runner looking only stockier like the Campbell. She does not have the Campbell feather markings, instead more like her Runner mother. I don't have a recent picture. Because I know nothing about my male's history-- he is first generation in my flock, I don't know if he breeds good layers (the male genetics decides this). So when she starts laying this spring, I'll know what kind of layers he throws.

It will be interesting if I decide to hatch some. Mama has never really shown an interest in setting. Ducks are sort of a messy pain, but they are just too cute as babies. We shall see how brave (?) I feel closer to spring. Thanks for the input.
