Crossing colors

I'll be glad when someone makes a Purebreed to mixbreed chart.

Example:

Rooster - Light Brahma
Hen - Buff Orpington

Offspring = ????

That way you can input whatever breed it is you are crossing and get a better idea of the offspring.

Much more user friendly I think.

You get mutts! Now colors, that is different. that generator goes by colors~ Pretty cool stuff
Put in the color so by light say you mean white, dominant and buff all will be white
But white ressive and buff make crazy colors like black, brown, fawn etc

How many breeds are there? 50?
How many colors are there on average? 10?

That would mean 500 * 500 combinations = 250000 crossings to put in your user friendly chart...

And how to start with a mutt?

This version of the Chicken Calculator lists some of the non-colour genes: comb genes, polydactyly, muff/beard, tufts, silkie, naked neck, etc.

So you can select some of the specific traits for a breed. It would be nice to know offhand that a white leghorn is usually dominant white versus the usual recessive white of a silkie. But I think things like that would be a lot of work to add in. I suppose a cross-reference table of breeds and the genes associated with the breed (araucana would be pea-combed, tufted & rumpless; wyandotte would be rose-combed; sultan would be crested, V-combed & featherfooted; etc.) Still a lot of work.

Unfortunately, a lot of the genetics of body type are not documented or known, so how do you create modern game with their very tall stance versus d'uccles with their U shape versus cochins with their round shape versus ...

That is a very useful ( to me ) bit of info - I'm very glad you shared! Hubby is REALLY wanting a some "traditional" white leghorns around the place, but he wants them huge like our Brahmas. I told him it probably wasn't going to happen - they are a small, streamlined, laying breed - no meat and not a heavy breed. But, this gives me the idea to cross them with my Brahmas for bigger size and a ( hopefully ) easier temperment - less flighty. If I could do that and they would be likely to come out all white I think he could be happy! Sounds like I have my first "project birds"! Thanks again!
