I have 4 gold coturnix, but only 1 is a hen so. I was thinking bout crossing the other 2 cocks over jumbo brown hens. Have any of you ever crossed colors? If so what are the results?

I'm not the coturnix color genetics expert around here, but I beleave that if you cross anything with a brown/brown coturnix , then all your first generation birds will be brown. The second generation can get interesting if bred back to other birds with a resistant other (white) color. I'm working on that now.

I have zero experience with the darker than brown colors, reds and the like, so I just don't know.

And I thought you wanted to cross gold on brown because gold x gold was a lethal gene and you'd loose 25 percent right off the bat. But I know nothing of their genetics, Just think I read that somewhere.

Yeah I was wondering if you'd get a brown split to gold in your F1 generation then breed them back to the gold parent and 50% of your chicks would be gold.

And I have never heard of the gold being lethal, do you have a link with more info on it?

I'll look for the link but I have heard the same about goldens being lethal. There are a number of conversations in the forum on that subject.
