I have a micro Serama roo, absolutely obsessed with him. He works well in our house save for one thing- he crows quite a bit as roosters generally do. I’m nervous when it’s summer our neighbors will complain. I don’t personally mind it and he doesn’t crow at night ... yet.

My farmer friend recommended a crow collar. When I put it on him, he FLIPPED OUT. I mean really stressed. Is there anything anyone else can recommend that will work for the crow, or do I have to rehome him :( ?

Or is there any brand of crow collar that won’t stress him as bad? What do y’all do? He’s like the size of a small book fully grown.

This is a subject that gets peeps a tad excited about. There are many threads on the topic to take a look at - just use the search function.

On a good day, a no-crow collar reduced the volume by around 50% in my experience. At uncivilised times of the day / early morning it never really cut the mustard so the cock bird went to a good home.

Can you keep him locked in the dark until a later hour, so he doesn't start crowing until like 9:00am? Also position the coop so it is as far from neighbors as possible.

Are rooster allowed where you live? If so, then your neighbors will adjust. I justify having loud roosters when I hear my neighbor’s dogs barking at all hours!
Your little guy is way too cute to rehome! ❤️

"As far away from the neighbor's house as possible." That's funny.

:lau Someone methinks has never heard a rooster crow...

Yeah, I can hear mine 700 feet away at our mailbox. It all depends on topography and other factors but they can certainly carry.

I've ridden my bicycle past "rooster farms" where I could hear them crowing from their hutches nearly a quarter mile off. Roosters are capable of incredible volume when they want to be heard.

I would never recommend a crow collar. Roosters crow and it’s natural. Anything that inhibits that function is cruel to the bird as it is a stressor.
Yeah I would agree. He flipped his crap when I tried one. And then I felt like a horrible rooster mom.

So I guess I was just seeing if anyone had any other recommendations. I mean other than soundproofing
