Crow no mo'?

One night I had to pull a roo inside, (at the time he was residing by himself), due to a bad wind that came up suddenly and freezing temps..
Well ok it was actually due to me feeling sorry for him being out there in that.

I had nothing available that was suitable on a spur of the moment, so quickly pulled out a small rubbermaid tub and loaded it down with fresh pine shavings. Small but a lot warmer and safer in there over night for him.

Guess what I heard around 6 am? Right... he crowed.

He could not stand up in it without ducking his head. It was just for over night and he was cosy. He was very please he could get treats when everyone was sleeping.

So no I would not recommend you doing this to stop him from crowing.
Thats my 2 cents worth of hen scratch.

i've been using a medium sized dog crate and throw a fuzzy blanket over it to help muffle the noise and keep him warm. my coop has been insulated with quilt batting and thick curtains so his 4:30am crowing will not bother my neighbor's kids that early. he gets let out at 7am when it is 'safe'. no complaints so far.

before he was let back out to the coop, he was in my basement with 2 other crowing cockerels. we can sleep through that in our house but apparently my neighbors couldn't while he was outside in his coop! the neighbors don't mind during the daytime, but too early in the morning (before 6-6:30) is enough for them to be grumpy with me.

That is a great idea, along with another idea of insulation of my coop besides the basic wood construction that I have now.

No problem with daytime crowing but that early early morning before most people are getting up is an issue for my family and maybe my neighbors. The one that lives closest to the coop likes the sounds of crowing, but there are other neighbors that haven't said anything yet.

I am looking for a sound solution, as my rooster is a great little guy.

. i gave him away because of his crowing-he always found a way to the window sill to crow out the screen while it was opened. after a few more cockerels had hatched i decided i wanted to keep one anyways, but it was the bt cochin i kept, and he is almost as loud!
