So I have this crowing 10 year old hen. She's the only one left of the 5 gals I got at the same time. When I got my new ones, she didn't crow right away. I had them for a year and these last few weeks Maggie has been crowing every morning. I know there are things like spontaneous sex change and domination, but my question is: Can I somehow stop her from doing this? I live in a neighborhood where I face having to "get rid" of her and she's been with me for 10 years. I don't want to lose her because of this. She usually jumps on the roost to crow. Would it help for me to just take that down for now? Are there other ways to make her quit?

I think she's crowing just to establish that she is the one running that flock now.

Are you not allowed to have roosters where you are? Because if that's the case you kind of have an out. She's not a rooster. And she's 10 years old so it isn't like she's going to be around very much longer. And hopefully once your youngsters coming to point of lay she'll back it off.

Is she crowing all day long? I also have a hen that crows. But she doesn't do it very often. A big difference is that I do have a rooster.

She now quit crowing and has laid two eggs (did I mention she's 10 years old..lol). I haven't had an egg from her in over a year. Maggie crowed every morning there for a while, but not during the day. She started crowing before I got the new batch, so not sure what started the crowing, but I'm happy she quit. We are not allowed to have roosters here and one of my neighbors is not a very nice man. So yeah, glad it's solved, whatever it was.
