Crowing age for roo

i have 3 cockerels (wyandotte and 2 orpingtons) that are 11 weeks and not one of them has even attemped crowing (that i've heard). All they do is make a really ugly squaking noise when i try to pick them up!

I was thinking the same thing today - I have a 12 week old standard cochin roo (i think he's a he) and was wondering when he would start to crow. I only have girls, so maybe he needs crowing lessons from some place. I could always play him some of the youtube videos to get him going.

My cornish rock rooster and buff orpington rooster crowed at 2 months.

My 2 rhode island red roos haven't started crowing yet, at least not that i know of.

Hmmm, I'm starting to think my Barred Rock Rooster is a chicken!
Four months old, all of the women to himself, no other roos, no crowing! New to chickens, so I can't tell by looks.

We have Orpingtons, and "Blue" started cockadoodling three weeks ago, at around 14-16 weeks. Then just last week, "Percy" started as well. I cockadoodled to them before any of 'em started, and they seemed real curious. Storey's book, says they learn from mature roos, in our case, there were'nt any around. But,,where we got them from was "very musical" It was funny when Blue started, at first it sounded like a huge warbley groan, and within a coupla days, he had it down pat! Same with Percy, but he refined it sooner,,,,after learning / listening to Blue. Alas, Percy and Lucky have moved on to thier own "harems" to great families, with lots of hens, who needed thier "assistance" The antics of a rooster are priceless. Enjoy!
