I have two 17 week old Amuracanas (I got from a hatchery) one lavender, one black. The black Ameraucana has started crowing in the early AM. She's definitely a female and she's definitely attempting to crow. I did have two Roos that were part of the same group of chicks, but I had to re-home them a few days ago, which is when the crowing started. I know that sometimes a hen will start to crow when there's no Roo present, but I have two older hens and one is clearly the alpha, so I don't know why this new girl is crowing. Is there a possibility she'll stop? I don't want to re-home her, but I can't have her crowing either. I do have the older girls and the younger girls in separate coops at night, but I'm going to merge them hoping my older alpha girl will assert her dominate and that will stop the crowing.

Well snap, I guess maybe "she" is really a "he"? The other two Roos were Isbars, an they had huge combs really early, so I just assumed these two were hens.. when s/he crows she sounds like a hen crowing, not like the Roos did.

The breed Just Has A Smaller Comb Type

Ugh. I really thought if they were roos they would have developed large combs early on like the isbars did.

Definitely a ROO :hmm Ameraucana's have "pea" combs if you look closely you will also see it's hackle & saddle feathering "flowing". From the limited amount of AM I've had, noticed the Cockerels have 3 rows & Pullets 1 row but not sure if it's true or just my luck :)
