OK, I'm guessing the latter. I have had hens for several years. My latest groups of chickens are a wide assortment of types and ages. I have a chicken that was thought to be a golden comet. The bird is about 8months old. It has gotten very big. I lot bigger than the other chickens. Up till about 1 month about there were no reasons to believe this wasn't a hen.

About a month ago my wife claims the chicken was in the barn crowing. I told her that she was crazy (that's the case regardless of this) and didn't think anything of it. I had believed the chicken had laid before in the boxes, but can't say for certain. The chicken in the last few weeks has been jumping on the other hens. I just innocently (yes I know of the birds/bees

) just though the bird was mean. Yesterday I was in the barn and heard this odd noise. The second time I heard it, I thought the sounds was familiar. I then walked down to see what I feared. The "hen" was crowing! This morning, I heard it as soon as I walked out the door in the morning.

This crowing is sooo quiet. Do I have a rooster that some people would dream of, or do I have a hen that thinks she's a rooster? I can't believe how long it's taken for the crowing to come about. We never planned to have any roosters, but so far, this bird is great.

it is possible to have a hen who crows and otherwise takes over the duties of a rooster where there is one but to me it sounds like you have a very nice roo..the only way you could be certain that it is a hen is to watch and see if she lays any eggs

oh and nice to meet you.
