Crowing Hen?!

So, we have this hen, she’s a Joe Goode Grey Game Hen, And she crows! For a while, we thought she was sick and it was some noise, but then it started sounding less like a loud wheeze, and more like a crow! We know she’s a hen, because she lays eggs, but she has qualities of a rooster! Not only does she crow, but she is double spurred, and hens USUALLY only have 1. She also fights! We have trouble getting her bred becuase she fights with the rooster! Does any one else have or has had a hen that has done something like this?

It happens, typically if there isn’t a rooster in the flock the top hen takes over as the rooster, but it can also happen if the rooster in the flock either isn’t sexually mature yet or he is lower on the pecking order than the hen.

It's much more likely that she's just a crowing hen. That happens much more often than hermaphrodites do.

About a month ago one of our hens started to crow. At first we weren't sure if it was one of ours or our neighbors ( their birds are young). All of our girls are laying, and the one who is crowing (was able to catch her in the act today) is young, around 8 months. She's definitely the boss.
