Crowing in the middle of the night?

I was out on my back porch last night around midnight and I could hear all my roos crowing from the coop. They went at it for a minute or so and then all was quiet again. It was pitch black and quiet as can be last night and there's no way they would have heard me. Is this a totally normal thing that the boys do sometimes? My only concern is that they were reacting to a predator around the coop.

I have a partridge cochin that I'm going to have to rehome because about the only time he really crows alot is at night.

My roosters only crow at night if they seen someone (or something) unfamiliar outside. Before when I had all of extra roosters, they would have crowing contests in the middle of the night just for the heck of it

Mine will crow when they hear the house door open regardless of the time of day. They know I am on my way out. Or when anything abnormal is around.
be it squirrel in the tree, or ravens across the road.

Just wondering....how many roos do you have? I don't know if having multiple roos would cause night crowing, but I am wondering. Can anyone respond to that? I have never had too many at one time, so I can't speak from personal experience.
Are you going to set a trap around your coop? Perhaps something had them excited like you said. I have been noticing a lot of local wildlife about the place here.

I only have a buff rooster and a cuckoo maran rooster . BUT the maran has only crowed twice ! and both times have been at 11pm at night ?! nothing out around the coop and lights out in house , first time I heard him I thought something was in there, but nothing ! does anybody know why he does this
