Crowing Pullet?? 9.5 weeks - Mottled Ancona

I watched her crow but yes it was for sure a weird pre-pubescent crow. 😢 I was so sure we had all girls
I'm sorry to hear that, he might be a late-maturing cockerel then.

I raised a batch of Swedish Orust last year, they look a lot like Mottled Anconas pattern-wise, and I had similar males in my bunch.
I knew without a doubt 2 of the 6 were male, but they had such tiny light-pink combs even 2-3 months in that most people probably wouldn't have thought so. The only reason I could tell is because I had the females for physical comparison and they were little brawlers. I gave them to a local feed store and although I made it very clear that they were roosters, I wouldn't be shocked if someone thought they were getting a great deal for two pullets only to get a surprise in another couple months.

Some are sneaky roos, I hope that you just have an oddity there but I doubt that because on the rare occasion when female chickens crow, it's usually completely mature females, not youngsters.

My bet is this is a pullet. I have an Ancona too. She's got a massive comb but it stayed pale until around 28 weeks old. She didn't start laying eggs until 34 weeks.

The males are pretty red and flashy early on in my experience. I guess time will tell but my vote is female.
