Crowing Pullet?? 9.5 weeks - Mottled Ancona

I've had crowing pullets and crowing hens even with other cockerels and roosters.

I'm going to vote pullet, the little wattles do look a bit pink, but that's also a very small and pale comb.

Please keep us updated!!!

12 week update! Nori has not crowed again since that day. I have heard her mock some warning and snack noises that Buddy makes but I also hear that from the Hens on a normal basis.

She is very vocal. She sounds like our Babs did when she was little. Like a little goose honking about everything.

Her appearance has not changed much. Still a short pale comb and waddle, VERY skinny legs (more skinny than her brooder mates), and no change in her feather shape but I am keeping my eye on her.

I will update in a few weeks with pictures and any other details.

Also a side note, we are fully integrated as of today! The bully hen (Babs) has been reintroduced and they are sorting out the pecking order in a more peaceful manner. It has been a long 5 weeks 🤦‍♀️

My Ancona is my loudest hen so I'm not surprised yours is vocal! Looking forward to seeing updated pics.

13 week Picture update! I don't see any rooster tells but please tell me if you do. I am still learning. Bonus picture of all 3 of our littles. I did not get a picture of Nori's legs but they are even skinnier than the Golden Buff's in the last picture. Still no more crowing but very much the leader of the 3.

That’s a pullet. I have had a lady that crowed more than once. I had one that crowed and she was the bottom of the pecking order.

Edit to add: The only thing that the girls that I have had that crowed had in common, or at least that I noticed, was laying problems to some degree. Nothing serious, but a tendency to lay thinner shelled eggs, or not consistent laying. Maybe related in some way to the crowing or maybe not.

Alright 18 week update with pictures. I am going to go ahead and say she...I see no rooster behavior at all anymore. No crowing that I have heard. I had to capture her for a close up because she's ALWAYS moving. She runs all over the run during snack time from pile to pile, honking all the time.

In the last week or so her waddles have started growing and turning a bit more red.

One of her sisters started laying this past week. I forgot how tiny the eggs start.

Anyway here are her as of today. I will next update when we get the egg to fully confirm :) (which I hear can be a while longer for this breed)
