so 4 months ago we got 2 new baby chicks to replace the loss of our rooster. we ended up with a bantam buff brahma and a BBred OEGB, the brahma named chet began crowing a month ago and is 100% a cockerel. my question is can a pullet crow? i have heard that they can to replace a rooster or from a hormone imbalance but never around a rooster. i believe i have accurately sexed them from 4 weeks old due to obvious cockerel and pullet signs. and finally, could chestnut the oegb be a cockerel?
thankyou

Crowing hens are rare. Crowing pullets are even more rare.
If it's still fairly young, and it's crowing, you'll be safe to assume it's male.

4 months ago... BBred OEGB... could chestnut the oegb be a cockerel?

I cannot see the photos. They showed up while I was typing.
But "black breasted red" describes the male color, including a black breast. That shows up within the first month or two.
Females have a brown or "salmon" colored breast, not black.

Just saw the photos. The OEGB is a pullet (color, no pointy saddle feathers, comb way too small for a male of that breed and age.)

1st pic looks like a female.
2nd pic looks to be male.

i would agree with black_cat but i watched him do it this morning and she followed him up with a crow every time
