Ok... I am new to byc and to chicken raising. I bought a 3 month old Welsummer Roo about 3 days ago. Before I bring any hens home I want to be sure he is healthy first, so he is the only one I have right now.

I expected him to crow at dawn and off and on thruout the day. But he doesn't seem very consistant.

On the 12th Sunrise was at 6:12 and he started crowing at 4:30
the 13th sunrise was 6:11 and he crowed again around 4:30
The 14th was time change, and when I left for work at 5:30 he was still asleep. David said he was not sure what time he did start crowing.
Today 15th sunrise was just after 7 am and he crowed twice before 3 am then was quiet until a little after 6 when he crowed every few minutes for at least 2 hours...

Do you think this will be the norm for him?
Also if you close your chickens in the coop at night, are they eager to go out in the morning or do they kind of chill out insdie a while?

Roosters crow when they feel like it and while they sometimes have a reason, sometimes it's just cuz.
Once chickens get used to being out at a certain time each day you can expect them to make a fuss if you mess with their schedule. My chickens don't chill out in their coop. If I am late to let them out in the morning they are lined up at the door and doing their best to get my attention all the way up to the house.
