I had five roosters out of straight run. Two started cakadoodeling (sp?) at four months. Both really spelled it out, like, caka-doodle-doooo!!! One just said caka-do! caka-do! One was silent. Just minded his own business.
Well, the hens selected one of the long spellers, even though he was not the prettiest one. I liked the pretty one better, but I am not a hen, so I did not have a say in the matter.
Long story short, four roosters found their destiny other than in the backyard, and the one remaining still cakadoodles a lot.
I think it depends on the rooster, or the age. Or the dominancy, male chromosome, ya know. Who knows.
