YES! I just did my 1st hatch of bantams rather than buy them this year. I almost starved them to death before I figured out why they weren't growing & looking like what I am used to. I even tried hammering the food a bit smaller & noticed they only picked at the bits of powder.. so I ground a whole bunch into powder. They were so ravenous & have been eating constantly & sounding so much more content since. 10 years with chickens & the 1st time having to grind their crumble. I felt terrible when I figured out what was wrong, but I know it saved their lives ..I found this post because I have a runt in my flock of 6 babies who are 10 days old. The runt wasn’t eating at all. I ground some of the feed and I’m offering both ground and non ground crumble. She went crazy over the ground and was ravenous. I’m afraid if I hadn’t tried that she would’ve not made it. Fingers crossed she starts catching up or at least lives to hen-hood.
