Was wondering which most people feed and why they like one over the other. thanks

I feed mine pellets, because if they spill it, then they pick it up too. When I feed them crumbles they just end up stepping all over it and pooping in it. In other words i get to go in the cool and clean it up.

I find much less waste with pellets. Spilling on ground and not eating it. We feed crumbles to 10-12 weeks when large enough then switch over. Turkey finisher comes in pellet form and works as a good grower feed.

I feed crumble because I choose to feed grower ration at all times for all birds in my flock and that comes in crumble form.

@Egghead_Jr - What size is the pellet on the turkey finisher?

I feed "crumblets". Poulin Grain (out of Vermont) offers their Egg Production Plus in a slightly smaller pellet. Bigger than a crumble, smaller than a pellet means both my standard hens and bantams will eat it. It's also an 18% protein food so offsets the lower scratch and scraps they get. I no longer have a rooster so don't have concerns over the included calcium. My girls do great on it.

Hi
My chicks are 10weeks old today they are not into trying to grower pellets still have the crumb but I do let them roam round the garden and they seem happy grazing in the lawn I would say I over feed them but that crumb doesn't seem to go down.
I do spoil them with lettuce and diced cucumber they just love that.
I still cannot determine the sex of them if anyone could help that would be great and if anyone knows how I can get them onto the pellets I've mixed up and I've even ground it down but it's still there last resort
Thanks

Hi, Martyn, and welcome to BYC.
To really help you with the ID and gender of your birds, a better photo will be needed. It is best if we can see the birds from the side, in a shot that shows as much of the bird as possible. Just having glanced at this photo it does appear you have at least one cockerel (male) - the one with the patchy brown bits closest to the camera. If you take a few more photos of the birds you can start a thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this - which is a section dedicated just to identifying the breed or gender of birds.

Cool thanks will

Normal pellet feed (layer pellet) size. I think the turkey finisher I last used was 16% protein. You know, I don't have anything called "all flock" around here but by looking at the different feeds find what I need for crumble/pellet or higher/lower protein. The unmedicated starter crumbles I currently can get is 20% protein and only $13. So happy about that.
