Crumbles vs Pellets. Do they eat one faster then the other?

Mine simply won't eat the pellets. Anytime we have to buy them they just sit in the dishes. I guess they wait to free range in the afternoon to eat.

Mine like the pellets better than the crumbles. Unfortunately, I can't get the Flockraiser for the younger ones in anything but crumbles, and sometimes I can only get the layer feed in crumbles. They go through the crumbles faster. It's not because they eat it better. It's because more of it ends up on the floor. Once it's on the floor it's ruined because I have a duck that believes all floor splace around the feeders needs to be soaked. I think it's one of her religious beliefs, or maybe it's just a cultural thing.

I have the same exact feeder as rstampa on page 1 of this thread, am using crumbles. They seem to go through them a little faster than pellets. I could be wrong, but I think the crumbles are pehaps a little easier for them to digest, vs. the hard pellets that I've also used. My only reason for saying this is that one of my chickens consistently has a bigger crop than usual at the end of the day, she's always been this way and doesn't appear to have any crop problems per say.. but anyways, this issue seems much less of a deal when she's eating the crumbles. Same deal when I feed her scratch grains for a snack, crop get's huge. I think the density of the feed plays a role in that whole thing. I rotate in a bag of the pellets once in a while just to keep them from getting to picky about one or the other.

My Feed Store Guy told me that the pellets were made for people that don't have feeders in their coops and just toss the feed on the ground. Pellets are made to retain their shape in moist conditions. I hope that helped.
