Yesterday we moved out 9 week Auracanas to the new tractor. They did great during the day. We fed, watered, and moved them just before nightfall. When we stepped out this morning, one was dead in the corner. No blood or missing parts, no sign of struggling, but it looked flattened. Spent the day keeping an eye on them and they were just fine. At dusk we went to check food and water to find them all huddled on top of one pullet. Once we got them off her, she was nearly dead, apparently from suffocation. Why are they doing this?? They have shelter to run to if they get spooked (like when a hawk flies over), but they're piling into one corner where they are completely exposed.

Sounds like they are scared and maybe cold depending on your location. You should put them in the shelter enclosure and shut them in at night if its big enough for all of them to comfortably be in the enclosure without being over crowded. Sometimes chickens are not very smart
