Hello again I have a problem with my silkie hen ..she is about 7 mos old tried to take pic but camera not working right all blurry cant adjust.....so I will try to explain
About a week ago I noticed this yellow crust appearing on the top of the foot of my silkie hen..did not notice it on any of the others....I isolated her and began to put neosporin on it but now two weeks later it is all over both of her feet..
the best I can describe is yellow thick crust on the tops of her feet it does not go down her toes or on the bottom of her feet or up her leg just on the top and to the first joint...I have never dealt with a problem like this before so dont know how to handle it...I tried to look up a thread but I just kept finding swollen, bumble foot, broken leg and everything it was'nt...so if anybody has any ideas I would be grateful..
She is eating drinking and pooping fine walking fine.

thank you so much for your help

thank you destiny I will check into that .....but why dont the others have it too?
I know if that is what it is I will treat all of them
thank you very much

Its just like other lice/mites, sometimes all the birds will get it and sometimes they only target 1-2 birds in a pen. You need to smother the bugs....vaseline, lotion, etc and it takes a few weeks for the crusty crap to start falling off. Personally the best method I've found to get rid of it is to take a small can/ice cream bucket/whatever and put some diesel fuel in there. Dip the birds legs in there and within a couple days you will see noticeable improvement. Repeat every 3-4 days until gone. I've gone the vaseline route before too and it makes for a gooey mess. The feathers and legs get caked with mud and bedding and you are wiping to put a fresh layer of gooo on non-stop. It wouldn't hurt to strip the pen down and put new bedding for the unaffected birds. Those mites like to hide in the crevices of wood too.

Thank you so much

No problem! I only know about this because years ago I bought a bird from a swap and didn't even notice its legs til I got home. It was a golden lace polish with white crest and tail. Cool looking, but I had to deal with the leg mites too. I called up a few of the guys in my poultry club for advice and it worked like a charm.
