I have a BCM chick that I helped hatch. This was the first chick I've had make it after helping to hatch. The chick pipped and zipped, but never really made it thru the membrane. After helping the chick out, it had the membrane stuck to it all over. I sprayed it down with warm water until it appeared I had all membrane removed. Now, the chick is still very crusty. His hatch mates are picking at him. Would it be a good idea to give him another "shower" to remove the crustiness, or will it soften up on its own?

Thanks.

Hi
I'm as bad as you..I will give them a chance at life if I can. I found an old toothbrush works real good on getting it brushed out of their fluff.I just gently brush them until they are either clean or completely ticked off-then I stop and try again in a little while. They will get it off and fluffy if you leave it alone-just depends on how much picking it's getting from the others-that picking if it's not severe does a good job cleaning it off as well.
Congratulations on your baby

For what I paid for the eggs, it's worth the effort of saving one. Saving one lowered the price per chick about 3 bucks each.

Thanks for the advise.
