Crusty looking beak

Does anybody know why my silkies beak looks like this? I noticed my other one had a crusty looking beak a few weeks ago (photo below) and now this one (top photo) has it too. They are otherwise completely healthy and are almost 11 weeks old.

Could it be some of your fencing or feeders that they are injuring their beaks on?

Could it be some of your fencing or feeders that they are injuring their beaks on?

The fencing is 1/2 (or maybe 1/4?) inch hardware cloth and they mainly eat out of bowls. I’ve never seen them put their beaks through the fencing or even near it really. They do have a bit of trouble seeing lately as their crests have really came in (I’m still working up the courage to give them a feather trim) but they always find the food, water, and each other.
