My 3 year old welsh harlequin duck has some light brown crusty stuff around her vent. The skin under it is white and wrinkled. My initial reaction is that she sat in poop all night and it got dried to her. But perhaps this is a symptom of something else. Does anyone have ideas of what this could be?

She is full of energy and appetite. Normal in every way. The crusty stuff has been there about a week.

When she bathes does it come off and then later you notice it back again Can you see any discharge coming from her vent? They can get yeast infection and it is smelly too.

No discharge or funky smells. Whatever it is dried to her skin. It pulls her skin and is uncomfortable for her when I try to clean it off.

Won't it come off when she bathes do they have access to a kiddy pool bathing should help soften it up or wash it off. And your sure it's not poop?

It could be poop, though it is odorless. It is very stuck to her skin - like a scab. She has lots of pools, and last night I soaked her bottom in warm water for an hour. It didn't seem to help much and when I tried to clean the crusties off after soaking she says it hurts. :(

Poor thing maybe if poo it is making her skin irritated. Try some Vaseline or other kind of lubercating jelly and rub it around the area to see if that helps. Maybe even some Neosporin with out pain if it's sore.
