A few months back I bought day old baby chicks from the feed store. They had Easter Eggers and Barnevelders in the same stock tank, and Barnevelder was on my MUST HAVE list so I was so excited.. turns out I grabbed an Easter Egger on accident 😂😭 (gray and white pullet in the crate, the others are Marans).

My double laced silver Barnevelders (2 cockerels and 1 pullet) that we hatched at home are growing out nicely and so friendly at least. They are several weeks older.

I've been interested in the barnevelders, they are just absolute gorgeous birds especially your double silver laced!
Are they an overall friendly breed to add to any flock?

Yes, they are definitely friendly so far. I wish I had more!! Our orpingtons from the same brooder are the friendliest, they will sit in our lap and stand on our arms. the barnevelders aren’t quite that warmed up to us, but still are very friendly. The 2 cockerel barnevelders still let my 5 year old pick them up at 9 weeks. The pullet is the most timid because she’s the tiniest but will let us hold her with moderate effort. Haha.

Hi if you don’t mind me asking how can you tell which of the barnevelders are male or female? I have a few and I’m so stumped on it.

I couldn’t tell until they were feathered out! The combs and feather pattern were distinctly different between the two males and the one female at that point.

My female has the lacing Across her whole body and is black feathered everywhere whereas the roosters only have the lacing in certain areas and have different patches of feather color. They are very iridescent too in the black feathered tails and back. Hackles are white.

Beautiful! The Easter egger is beautiful, too. The blue/silver coloring is unusual.

I got this picture of my roo double laced silver Barnevelder and the pullet is in the distance as well. I thought I would send an updated pic. They both are very gorgeous birds!
