Crying out in pain; anything I can do?

I have a Blue Wheaton Olde English Game Bantam rooster, Fuego, who is probably about six years old, maybe a bit more. He has been fine except I noticed he has been eating less the past couple of weeks. Today when I went to feed he was sitting puffed up, and when I went to pick him up he winced as if it hurt. He is crying out in pain now, and in between he sits with his head under his wing. He will not eat or drink. He feels stiff wheh you pick him up. He is in a separate pen from the others b/c he is low on the pecking order, and always has been, but lately my ds has been letting him free range a bit under supervision. However, he's been in his pen for the past several days; it has been cold and dark. It hurts me to hear him, not sure what I can do. Would Five Flower help? Anyone have any ideas? It is not too cold today and I am reluctant to bring him inside the house for fear it would stress him out more. His pen is elevated and enclosed except for the front and is pretty warm. He has a problem with scaly leg mites but I doubt that would have anything to do with this. Should I try him with some gatorade or antibiotic water? He is a cutie, I would hate to lose him.

One of ours did that after being attacked by a coon.
She did not make it.
Of course yours is not hurt so keep trying!
We tried to feed her with a dropper and fed her probiotics. (See hen attacked by raccoon, blind and acting strange)

Have you looked him all over for any external signs, cuts, lumps or swelling?
I don't know that the mites could cause that kind of pain either but just in case what are you treating them with?
I know that you can cover the legs with vaseline to smother the mites, you may want to try that while you wait for word on what else it could be.
The only other thing I can think of offhand if you say he hasn't been attacked is that he ate something he should not have while out freeranging.

Okay, I know some will disagree, but I have had a dog attack before on a group of chickens and gave them baby tylenol. I gave them 1/2 tsp every 4-6 hours. Check him all over and make sure he doesn't have any extrenal damage, confine him and I would give him some sort of source of heat unless it's warm where you live. It sounds like he was picked on by the other ones--he is older as well, so likely to get hurt. Anyhow, I never had any side effects from the baby tylenol and it seemed to help them...all lived after LOTS of tlc. Ialso fed them cooked egg, rice, and crumble and gave them pedialyte in the their water. You can also add a little sugar to his water...that's just my 2 cents and what worked for me. Good luck!!!

Thank you, that's the first thing I thought of is that he'd been poisoned, but he can't have, he's been in his pen for several days. And his pen is elevated, like I said, the other's CAN't pick on him. I'm thinking some kind of organ failure though I'll try to put vaseline on his legs again and I sent my DS to the store earlier for pedialyte and a dropper; we;ll have to try to get him to take it that way. He is just all, sort of, swollen....and stiff. Nothing visible except I noticed the poo in his pen is green and white; where IS that poo guide on here? Every time I go out there he looks at me sadly while he cries out, like he's begging me to help him...it's driving me crazy that I can't.

I had a hen with a broken pelvis, ans she was in shock, stiff and hermitic for at least a week after, panting, etc. She was given a half of an 88mg. aspirin every 4-6 hours as directed by vet. It's fine for them.

I really hope you can find out what's wrong.

Somebody help me out- doesn't Ivermectin kill mites? Wouldn't that be a quick spot-on fix for the damage they do to blood count and strength?​

If it were me, I would also try the aspirin thing. Just be careful not to over-do. Hate to see the little guys in pain.

Ok; I know they can have aspirin; i have given as much as two baby aspirin a day, and it's fine; but he won't eat anything. Only thing I can do is try to dissolve it in water and dribble it in his beak with a dropper. I'm sure it's not an injury, though...there's no way, really.
