Hi All,

So i recently purchased some eggs off ebay and they arrived on Thursday 30th in the post. Unfortunately on candling most of them looed like they had porous shells. I have read on the forum that porous shell hatching egs usually don't give a good result, but i am determined to proceed as the seller confirmed that he had a good hatch rate with the same eggs.

However he also mentioned that he 'soaks and wipes' eggs before posting to ensure that there are no cracks.

Upon placing the eggs in the incubator this morning, i have now noticed one of the eggs has a few 'crystals' that have formed on the shell. (Please take a look at the attachec picture)

I am not sure if this is due to the excessive porousness of the shell or some other impending issue that could impact my hatch ?
What do you guys advise in this situation ?

That looks like a couple of my shipped eggs earlier this year looked.
I incubated both separately and neither hatched or ever even developed.

The main concern is that if they are indeed bad, you can transmit bacteria to the other food eggs by incubating them together. For me it was just not worth it. If these are more valuable eggs I would advise incubating those ones separately if at all possible.

ETA, I used rubbing alcohol and removed the spots. They came back, so I assumed that it was oozing. These eggs were not washed either.

The bubbling happens when there's damage to the outer membranes. It allows the Albumin to seep through the pores. It's a common form of damage to hatching eggs when there's lots of rough handling.

More common shipped egg issues are: Jiggly, detached air cells, ruptured air cells, cracks, or smashed eggs.

Thank you all for your useful comments. I have also contacted the seller about the problem and he seems as much surprised as me !

Hello All,

Results of 7 days candling are in ! It seems only 1 is developing (Egg5) but that also has a blood ring formation as well.

I think egg 3 and 6 have clear detached air cell so by this point they wont stand a chance to develop. What do you guys think ?

Scrap the lot or only some ? keep them going ?
