I joined here a long time ago when I had three chickens, but I have four now. So my Tres Pollos name is inaccurate. A couple of years ago, I went to buy new cowboy boots and they had a trough full of chicks (it's a feed store, too). A sign over the trough said, "Please do not handle the chicks." Yeah, right!! Like I was leaving there without handling those chicks?? So of course I ended up buying a couple. Came home and my husband balked, but then he went out and built the most beautiful coop and run for them and now he loves them, too.
I am in Albuquerque, New Mexico and have four hens: a Buff Orpington, a Brahma, and two Dorkings. Dorkings are a rare, ancient breed that is thought to have come to Europe with the Romans. They have five toes instead of four, and the Romans described that. They are shy, but curious. Attached is a picture of one of my Dorkings.
My Brahma, Lilly, is big and fluffy and loves to sit on my lap, getting petted. If she's there, the Buff Orpington, Buffy, will come up, too. What is better than sitting in the sun with two soft chickens in your lap?
The Covid19 epidemic is going on right now and I feel all smug because the store is out of eggs, but I get four a day.
