cuckoo maran egg question

I bought what I thought was cuckoo marans chicks and they just started laying but their egg color is really light brown, is it not a cuckoo or is it b/c they just started laying?

Perhaps both or either. My CM darkened up after a week or two.

maran legs are white barred rock legs are yellow. not all marans lay the nice dark eggs

they have the white legs, I have barred rocks also. My buffs lay a darker egg than the cuckoos.
