Cuckoo Maran Eggs! COME HATCH WITH ME.....

what would the eggs on your avatar be rated as? They are so pretty!!!! I am getting some in a swap (BCM) and havent recieved a picture yet. I cant complain much as they are basicly free anyway but was just curious. I am just looking for pretty egg colors so I am not to worried about it but just wanted to know what I have when I get them. I wouldnt want to try to sell them if they arent up to par which I might would consider later if they are. Thanks for the great information. You guys have taught me a lot.

I would call the ones in my avatar as 7's. They show up in the image as really red though. Honestly I want to replace my avatar with my latest 8 scale eggs.

Dont the eggs lighten as the cycle goes on? If so should they still stay above the 4 on the scale? Also (sorry for hijacking) with Ameraucanas does the same type thing apply. I have heard many people say they will only lay blue but that is not true cause a lot of people get a minty tint to some eggs. Does the minty tint somehow lessen thier value as well? I know most people dont want the greenish ones to hatch only blue.

Kristian I would be interested in seeing how the hatch goes. I've heard of old timers hatching with a lamp but have heard others say it needs to be a controlled environment. I'd love to see how it turns out. Keep us posted.

As she said she did come off as rude. But it does not bother me that much becouse some people just don't how to give their opinion in a polite way even though I told her that I did'nt mind if they were a little lighter or what ever etc...... But the past is the past.....

so we keep on moving.

I hate to put a damper on your excitement, but the eggs you got are not nearly dark enough to qualify as Marans eggs. I don't know who sold them to you, but they shouldn't be selling that light of an egg as a Marans egg. This is one of the reasons the Marans breed is having such issues.....eggs like the ones you got are being sold when that shade of egg should not be included in the gene pool.

I was thinking the exact same thing but was afraid I'd come off as rude. . . Even with flash they look like 4's or 5's. I'm interested to see them without flash though.

Cuckoo Marans are often known to be rather light unless gotten from a truly reputable breeder.

I didn't say Katy was rude, I said I wouldn't want to sound so.

Katy was only saying what is so.

Well I had an eggs from one of my mixed breed chickens that does'nt go broody and two from my uncles farm becouse the hen had twelve eggs and could'nt cover them all. They were under a lamp at around 100F already for 14days So when I put the Maran eggs in I put the other 3 in to, and on the 21st day the one from my farm hatched
