Cuckoo maran gender

Question, can you sex cuckoo marans the same way as barred rocks? (Spot on head,leg color) I know it's not a 100% thing but just wondering if these 2 are pullets. They have darker legs also. Can get pictures in the morning if needed.

I personally do not ever go by head spots. They've all been so bred out that the head spot method is no longer accurate.

I have to agree with @Overo Mare on this. Head spots are no longer reliable, so you're going to have to wait for more feathers to determine the sex.

Yes with all the cross breeds the hatcherys are coming up with, it is getting harder and harder to sex them off of there head spots.

Thank everyone. Guess we will just have to wait a while. Does anyone know how soon You can sex barnevelders? From some of my research is says sometimes you cant tell until they're close to a year??

It is crazy! I don't know any chicken that you'd have to wait a year. Maybe* a silkie… cause they're difficult to sex, but not a standard feathered breed.

I agree! That long is super unnecessary. I wonder if the articles mean they continue to mature for a year, because some breeds do take a year or two to reach full size?
