This is one of the first eggs from my cuckoo marans. Cool looking but not what I expected at all! Anyone have a Cuckoo marans lay such a light or speckled egg?

Mine did, looked just like that. The BCM are the Marans that lay the dark chocolate eggs

The clean legged cuckoo Marans birds are generally crosses with higher producing layers, and not selected for dark eggs. Ours were like that too.
French Marans, with feathered legs, will produce chocolate eggs, at least ours from Cackle in several colors, all have, from several different shipments. Love them!
