This pretty girl is Petunia! She had a defined comb when I got her as a sexed pullet so I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve read that a pronounced red comb doesn’t always mean she’s a ‘he’ though. She is sweet, not bossy to the others. I also noticed her markings are very light compared to our other Marans, but also read that isn’t always the best indicator. We’re waiting it out to see if she ends up being a he. We have 2 possible Roos, including this one, but with only 6-8 hens, we only plan to keep the friendlier one. Opinions on gender? Opinions on keeping a rooster in general? We have 3 acres out of town so noise isn’t an issue and plenty of room to free range. Thanks!

How old?
At 6-8 weeks that much red screams cockerel.
5 wks! This is our first year with chickens so I trusted that sexed pullets would all be pullets! This is 2 of our 4 that are looking to be cockerels! I’m a little bummed because I wanted to keep all of them, but I’m nervous to have 2 roosters with 6 hens (my dad is starting 4 pullets that we’re combining with ours when the weather breaks).
