Hi,

I think this is the right forum to post this in, if not then could someone point me in the right direction.

I have a cuckoo marans rooster and a lavender bantam cochin pullet...both are 3 months now.
I was wondering what would happen if the Marans mated with the Cochin and I allowed the cochin to get broody (I have heard they make great mums). What would the resulting chicken look like?

Would it me a bantam cuckoo cochin?
Or a Lavendar Marans?

I also have a RIR pullet...would this produce a red and white barred chicken?

Cheers,

Crossing the cuckoo marans onto a lavender cochin would give black barred offspring colour wise. The offspring ought to have feathered legs.

Not sure which genes affecting size the bantam will be carrying, there are a few.
You might want to look at te size mutations on Kaz's Poultry Genetics for Exhibition Breeders

A cross between your cuckoo Marans & a RIR would give black barred offspring.

Thanks for the reply.

A small fluffy feeted barred cochin you say...MINT!

Crossing them together would give a variety of sizes in Cuckoo,Lavender Cuckoo,Black & Lavender

So from 1 egg, if I decide to hatch it, that's a 1 in 4 chance of getting chicks like in that url posted...bared, cuckoo, cochins?
From what you're saying some may be bantam, some medium, some large.
So I have a 1 in 12 chance of getting a bantam cuckoo cochin?

1 thing for sure...they will all be cochin fluffy with feathered feet?

Cheers,

Hi,

If the Marrans was a pullet and the Cochin a roo...would the resulting chicks be the same as if the genders were the other way round?

Cheers,

Woka
