I don't think you can sex them And I think it is a he, looks very similar to my cockerels at six wks old I notice yours has that bald strip down its neck like mine, I'm assuming its normal then?

Even between my Cuckoos they are some differences one is lighter with large dark brown eggs and one is wider light brown eggs with spots, they both are watered down "barred rock" in coloring and such late bloomers. My two Cuckoos are not very friendly either and are at the bottom of my flocks pecking order...

These are my Maran chicks, was wondering it it was two Cockerels i have and one pullet, it does say the colour helps you tell, but i have one Maran that is 12 weeksold, and its dark like the little one in this photo, but its crowing. So now i'm not sure if that rule is right. Your help would be great.

I have 2 cuckoo Marans. One is my little buddy, hangs with me all the time, it's my friendliest chick. They are 3 weeks old now. I'm thinking they are both female.

Is the cuckoo maran a small bird?
I purchased 2 this April. One is half the size of the other.???Both seemingly small.

No they should be full size chickens
My smallest one a cockerel is half the size of my biggest one a hen
All same age!
They are growing fast though 7 wks tomorrow and they are huge

One of my Cuckoos sounds like a squeak toy when she gets pecked. Looking at your picture both of my hens are the darker shade.

Cuckoos are really odd ducks, mine fought chest to chest, they faux crow I too questioned if it was a male and one still squeaks like a dog toy, they are late bloomers almost 6 months old before they started laying and I have one that has a pointy tail like the one in your picture and one that had a wide tail ( which since has been remove by dog) now she is just a naked ***. I also got mine from a different person so we don't think they speak the same chicken language as the rest of my flock (same group since birth) and are the low hens on the rung. Thanks to our grandson we call them bert and ernie , Beatrice as the pointy raid and Ernesta had the wide tail. Give it some more time.
