Cuckoo marans

Speaking of skiddish. I have 3 hatcery maran pullets that were the most skiddish of any chicks I have ever encountered. At 12 weeks old, 2 of the 3 have become very tame after running with calm heritage RIRs and being handled a good bit. One is still impossible. I won't get rid of her, I can't catch her.

my 8 week old marans is the most skittish of my four (2 BAs and an EE). I can pick her up but she is never happy about it. Im hoping that she will mellow out like my EE who is definitely the rock star of the group

She looks quite sociable obviously wants to be near you Mine are all very soft, I can't say they like being picked up but once I put them onto my knee they will just sit happily actually one insists on being picked up, he stares at me till I speak or laugh then soon as my mouth opens a bit he pecks my teeth!

She does like to socialize "from a distance" :) so as long as I dont try to obsessively touch her she is basically ok. She is VERY soft and I do enjoy petting her even if she does not! She is a little butt head though, she likes to peck at you all over, legs...arms...even your butt!!

My EE flew onto my back the other day....they are all goof balls and I love them!

Aw they have great characters, I'm dreading the cuddly one getting bigger I'll be battered and bruised!

So my dear marans who will eat from my hand and walk on me to get her meal worms STILL isnt thrilled about being help and picked up or even petted for that matter :( She is by far the biggest in my little flock and so so so soft! Im really hoping she gets used to me wanting to hold her soon.

She is also about 8.5 weeks old now and the poor thing is in a very awkward stage...she doesnt chirp anymore and cant cluck yet so the sound she makes is like that of a rubber clown honky horn! is that normal? It also sounds a little hoarse too. None of my other girls are making that noise yet, though my EE is almost there I think. I havent heard much from the BA's yet though.

Just want to make sure that she is working like she should and if any of you have had successfully gotten their somewhat flighty marans to get friendlier,

I do have chairs outside, though they all think that the chairs are for them :p I have sat on the ground and been walked all over...the BAs and EE will fly into my lap sometimes but my dear marans just waits for them to be messy and spill onto the ground. I am slowly working on her, I figure it will take time, I just dont want her to regress at all

Good luck I'm sure she,ll come round
