Cuckoo Marans???

I posted this in the wrong section by accident..(anyone know how to delete a thread??) I got this girl from a man that said he had cuckoo marans but I think she is a Barred Rock.. The only thing is her barring is very muted and she is dark. She lays a medium size and color brown egg. Not really dark..more golden brown. She does have yellow legs

context- bird is in US where AFAIK speckledys are not produced. Also bird has yellow legs. Marans have white legs which is dominant over yellow, so a cross would not have yellow legs like that.

it could be marans originating from hatchery- who don't care how their birds look, seems yellow legs have shown up out of their "marans" orders, also often their eggs aren't dark at all. Or it could be a backyard mix being passed off as marans purely based on her color.

It definately has marans somewhere in its breeding. It cant have got that colour from anything other but you are right about the leg colour

I agree it looks marans-y, it's why I brought up possible hatchery stock.

Thanks for all the replies!!! It looks Marans-y to me too but in the long run it doesn't matter too much. I do plan to breed her with a BCM roo...hoping to darken the eggs some!
