Cuckoo's not laying

I am new to chicken raising. I have two Cuckoo Marans and two Golden Sex Links which are about 24 weeks old. The Goldens have been laying for almost 4 weeks but the Cuckoos haven't started. Both Cuckoos have just begun squatting and one of them sits in the laying box but no eggs. Am I being impatient?

You are being impatient. Marans are bred for egg color not production. Most don't start laying until 5-6 months and they don't lay as consistently as your sex links will.

x2. My cuckoo Marans took FOREVER to start laying. If I'm remembering correctly, I got my first chocolate egg somewhere around 7-8 months.
